SURVEY ON FPT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 2024

Collaborative action for sustainable development (SD) has become a critical priority in the global economy, society, culture, and education. At the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Summit in 2015, world leaders adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at ending poverty, protecting the environment and the climate, conserving energy, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all.

From 2022 to 2025, FPT University has participated four consecutive times in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, a global assessment that recognizes universities for their contributions to sustainable development. The university has demonstrated continuous progress in its performance and global standing: in 2022, FPT University was ranked in the 801–1000 band; by 2023, it advanced to the 601–800 band; in 2024, it further improved to the 401–600 band; and in 2025, it achieved a significant milestone by reaching the 301–400 band worldwide.

Through these achievements, FPT University has solidified its reputation and earned international recognition as a higher education institution committed to promoting and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

1. Annual Student Survey on Sustainable Development Awareness and Actions

Each year, FPT University conducts an annual survey to gather data on students’ engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose of the survey is to assess students’ awareness, understanding, and concrete actions related to the 17 UN SDGs. Through the survey, students are encouraged to move beyond theoretical knowledge and translate their understanding into meaningful, practical contributions to sustainable development within the university and the wider community. The survey was conducted through the FE Survey platform to ensure systematic data collection and university-wide participation.

2. Results of FPT University Students’ Activities for Sustainable Development Goals 2024

In 2024, FPT University continued its annual survey on students’ engagement with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The survey was announced to all students across campuses and received over 36,657 responses, reflecting strong participation and awareness among the student community. Out of a total of 53,224 students, 68.7% took part in the survey, with the Information Technology major showing the highest participation rate (54.9%, equivalent to 20,124 students).

The findings provide a foundation for evaluating current initiatives and formulating strategic plans to further enhance FPT University’s contributions to the SDGs. The results reveal that FPT University students demonstrate active interest and involvement in sustainability-related activities across multiple goals.

Among the 17 SDGs, the most frequently supported by student actions were:

  • SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: engaging in regular physical exercise and maintaining mental health care.

  • SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: practicing water conservation, ensuring safe drinking water on campus, and promoting proper sanitation and hygiene habits.
  • SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy: using public transportation or electric vehicles to reduce emissions.

  • SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: utilizing recycled products and minimizing single-use plastic.

3. Conclusion

The survey results provide a valuable foundation for FPT University’s ongoing efforts to support and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By gaining deeper insights into students’ contributions, the university can better identify opportunities to inspire, strengthen, and scale up these actions. Moving forward, FPT University aims to enhance its impact through the provision of additional resources, the development of targeted programs, and the expansion of international collaborations that foster sustainable education and community engagement.
