FPT UNIVERSITY ACTIVELY DELIVERS INSTITUTION-LED OUTREACH PROGRAMMES THAT PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELLBEING IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES

1. FPT University Student Volunteer Program – Building Schools in Remote Mountain Areas of Son La Province

In April 2024, the iGo Community Service Club of FPT University Hanoi, in collaboration with the HopeCom Community Health Support Fund, launched the program “Building Schools in Mountainous Areas.”

The program was established with the goal of creating sustainable educational infrastructure for children in remote highland communities, including the construction of sanitary facilities, dormitories, and classrooms. The project supports 362 students at Muong Bam II Primary School, Bon Kham Hamlet, Muong Bam Commune, Thuan Chau District, Son La Province.

The project spans 8 months, from September 2023 to April 2024, and continues with the construction of the dormitory beginning in June 2024.

Upon arrival at the school site, the organizing committee constructed a 30m² restroom facility comprising separate male and female areas, each equipped with 3 toilets and a hygiene area. In June 2024, construction of the student dormitory will commence. In addition, students participated in various interactive games, reward-based activities, and sports competitions such as tug of war, capture the flag, and team coordination challenges. These activities, organized by FPT University students, were designed to provide enriching and memorable experiences for children in mountainous regions.

The biggest success of the program was the construction of a restroom and soon a dormitory, providing a better living environment for students.

To deliver this meaningful program, the organizing team consisted of 60 members divided into Content, Communication, External Relations, Logistics, and Design committees, under the leadership of Ms. Hoang Anh Phuong, Cohort 18, majoring in Digital Marketing. “Our desire to help the children motivated us to overcome every difficulty during the project,” shared Ms. Hoang Anh Phuong.

Expressing gratitude for the contributions of the iGo Community Club and FPT University, Principal Lo Trac Quyet of Mường Bám II School said: “We hope that through this program, the spirit of volunteerism and compassion will continue to spread, bringing positive values to the community. Your determination to travel to these highland areas is truly admirable. With your support, our students now have hygienic learning and living facilities, allowing them to study with peace of mind and grow to their full potential.”

2. Projects Supporting People with Disabilities and Vulnerable Groups

“Eyes See – Hands Hear” Campaign – Connecting the Deaf Community through Sign Language.

Originating from an Event Management class project, five students majoring in Multimedia Communications launched the “Eyes See – Hands Hear” campaign to support disadvantaged groups in society. The campaign is part of their graduation thesis and involves students from Cohort 17 of the Multimedia Communications major.

“Seeing with the eyes, hearing with the hands” graduation project was carried out by K17 students majoring in FPT University Multimedia Communications

The campaign name reflects the way the Deaf community communicates: “hearing” through hand gestures and visual cues. Driven by a desire to create positive social impact, the student team identified a lack of accessible content and communication opportunities for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing population. The campaign aims to raise awareness among students about the use of sign language and to promote understanding and respect for Deaf culture.

The project aims to narrow the communication barriers between the deaf, the hearing impaired and the hearing

One of the campaign’s most notable activities was the “Silent Market,” where participants communicated exclusively using sign language. The campaign partnered with the Can Tho Deaf Club to ensure professional accuracy and wider community reach. The team is now exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to bridge communication barriers between deaf and hearing individuals.

“Stroke Awareness” Project by Digital Art & Design Students

Students from the Digital Art & Design Department at FPT University collaborated with Tam Duc Hospital to organize the interactive art exhibition “Stroke Me…Stroke.” The exhibition raised public awareness about the rising incidence of stroke among young people and promoted community health education through the fusion of art and medical science.

With dedication and compassion, FPT university students, mentors, and faculty not only help the children improve their English proficiency but also provide emotional support, mentorship, and companionship. The project offers valuable learning and personal growth opportunities for participating students, who gain teaching experience, enhance pedagogical skills, and reinforce their own knowledge.

At the end of phase 2 of the project, 26 outstanding student-mentors were honored.
