FPT UNIVERSITY HAS IMPLEMENTED A RANGE OF PRACTICAL GREEN TRANSPORTATION INITIATIVES TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY FOR STUDENTS, LECTURERS, AND STAFF

FPT University has launched multiple practical initiatives under its Green Transportation Policy to encourage sustainable commuting options for students, lecturers, and staff while contributing to the wider community.
These initiatives align with Vietnam’s national strategy on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and directly support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13 – Climate Action).

1. Policies and Measures to Promote Carpooling and Public Transportation

  • Increased investment in shuttle buses to connect students with public transportation hubs

2024: Added four new daily shuttle routes connecting FPT University campuses with major public transportation hubs.

2025: Plans to add five more routes to link students directly with city public buses and the Metro Line 1 network.

  • Collaboration with City Departments of Transport to propose new bus routes and stops tailored to the commuting patterns of students, lecturers, and staff — ensuring accessibility and convenience for the university community.

2. Measures to Encourage Electric Vehicle Use and Reduce Emissions

  • The university management has signed agreements with electric bus companies of the city to propose and open routes connecting metro lines and other key public transit corridors, while establishing convenient stops along the most frequented commuting paths.

  • Through collaboration with Green SM and other electric vehicle companies, FPT University offers special financial support packages for staff and lecturers purchasing electric cars or motorbikes:

2024: 4% discount on vehicle prices.

2025: 4% discount + additional 4% university support package.

  • FPT University provides a 100% interest rate subsidy for one year for staff and lecturers purchasing electric cars — helping accelerate the transition toward cleaner mobility.
  • Support for students purchasing monthly Metro passes

For the September 2024 intake, 100% cost covered.

Continuing for the September 2025 intake.

3. Other Supportive Measures

  • FPT University has signed partnership agreements with electric vehicle charging providers to install charging stations that meet the daily needs of students, lecturers, and staff across campuses.

  • The university provides shared and free-use bicycles and electric bicycles on campus and in nearby residential areas.

  • Expansion of university dormitories offering various options

Dormitory rent remains 50% below market rates.

The university has established a housing network to help students find affordable accommodations near campus, thereby reducing travel distances.

Each semester, FPT University’s Student Affairs and Student Services offices support 600–800 students in obtaining dormitory spaces at the nearby National University complex, effectively reducing travel distances and transport emissions.

4. Overall Impact

Amid the national and city-level efforts to implement green transportation policies, FPT University’s own policies and actions have gained additional momentum and external support.
Through these efforts, FPT University is on track to achieve a 30% reduction in transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2027, fulfilling its sustainable transport goals ahead of schedule.
